hispanic people can be of european descent, as well as african, native american, asian, a mix of any of the above…. cameron diaz is part hispanic (mexican i think), christina aguilera is half ecuadorian… References :
"Hispanic" is a linguistic term meaning that a person speaks Spanish as a first language or comes from a predominantly Spanish-speaking area (for legal purposes, I think it counts if a person’s parents fit in those categories.)
It has nothing to do with race or ethnicity. References :
Not all hispanics have a dark complexion, in fact if you were to travel to Spain, you would be totally surprised to discover that the majority of the population in Spain are white. Since the US is located next to the Mexican border people assume that all hispanics must have darker skin. Even in other latin countries in South America there are many lighter skinned hispanics. I believe that when the Spanish came to this country many years ago and integrated with the "red skinned" native Americans that is how modern day Mexicans got their darker complexion. References :
